Panoramic X-Rays
Panoramic x-rays are obtained by using a specialized machine that takes one continual scan of a patient. These scans have several benefits over traditional dental x-rays including the use of less radiation, speed, convenience, and ability to find other conditions including temporomandibular joint, TMJ, disorders and can even help prevent a stroke. Our office is capable of both panoramic scans as well as traditional scan in order to best serve our patients.
As previously stated, panoramic scans use less radiation than if one were to take traditional scans. In fact, because the scan takes 90% less time than it would take to take traditional x-rays of one's entire mouth, it also decreases your exposure to x-rays by 90%.
Lets face it, traditional x-rays are not the most comfortable experience, but, in some cases it has to be done. Now imagine having to go through a traditional x-ray for each tooth. It's not a situation most people want to even think about, nevertheless experience. With our equipment, the discomfort one might feel with traditional x-rays is eliminated. Instead, having a panoramic x-ray taken is akin to standing still for 15 seconds or so.
The most important benefit to panoramic scans are those most people wouldn't know they could get from their dentist. Symptoms such as morning headaches, stiff neck, and sensitive teeth can be the result of TMJ, a disorder located in ones jaw and one that cannot be found with traditional x-rays. Additionally, certain symptoms of an impending stroke can be seen with panoramic x-rays, and not traditional ones. Other areas panoramic scans can reveal are roots, jaw placement and show problems such as cysts, tumors, other abnormal growths, and impacted and unerupted teeth.
